Prepping for the Financially Challenged

“Many people are now waking up to the possibility that the future may not provide the great recovery we all expect it to be. They are begining to sense that something is wrong with the economy and it will not get better. Their first thought is the question, What do I do to protect myself and my family? They usually answer that question with the thought, maybe these preppers aren’t so crazy after all. How do you prep with very little money?”

“Many start answering this question with buy this and buy that but that is not the first step to prepping. Every situation is different so your preps need to reflect your situation. The first thing you need to do is get a legal pad or a note book to write in and answer these basic questions.”

Importance of Sanitation after SHTF

Importance of Sanitation after SHTF
Pat Henry

In thinking about preparing your family for survival after a disaster or emergency situation you can’t forget to consider their health. Your family’s health is affected by so much more than having adequate stores of food. Having the best gun for self-defense is great and important, but what if someone in your group comes down with an illness that was easily prevented?  What if the killer that attacks you is a sinister little microorganism you never saw coming?

Of course, the health impacts vary with the event that caused the disaster. Flooding and Hurricanes would produce different health issues than a winter storm that knocked out the power. The subject of health though is always one that should be in your short-term plans for SHTF. After you have your Beans Bullets and Band-Aids squared away, your focus should be on health fairly soon. For the purposes of this article I will focus on two major disciplines of Sanitation and Hygiene. The first post will be on Sanitation and I will cover Hygiene in an upcoming post.

Sanitation

What is sanitation? Let’s just make this simple and say that the importance of sanitation is everything to do with getting rid of waste. In a grid-up scenario, most of us have access to a lot of systems to take care of sanitation for us. We have running water, toilets and garbage pick-up or landfills. If you don’t have any of those, you probably wouldn’t be on the internet reading this. Those systems do a pretty nice job of getting trash and our waste far away from us and that is important. Without Sanitation, diseases quickly spread.

For example, after the 2010 earthquake in Hati, More than half a million people became ill with Cholera. That disease quickly spread into neighboring countries it was so bad. Cholera is a water-borne disease. In Haiti, where most people lacked public sewage systems or sanitary latrines after the disaster, people often drink from the same water source they use to bathe and defecate. People ill with cholera develop severe diarrhea and, without immediate treatment, can become dehydrated. The rapid dehydration can cause shock, which can lead to death.

How can we prevent that? Several ways, but one primary concern is to make sure our waste isn’t contaminating our drinking water. To do that, we have to have a plan for taking care of good old number 2.

Bathroom Facilities

The average human produces two to three pints of urine and one pound of feces every day. If you have a family of four, or a group of twenty, that adds up quickly. Whatever the solution for removing waste we have to ensure that it will not contaminate any water supplies. A good rule of thumb is to bury waste at least 150 away from the nearest water source.

Here are a few different options for getting that waste safely out-of-the-way.

Toilet

As long as the septic lines aren’t clogged or backed up, you can still use your toilet. Actually, if you have a septic tank, you could conceivable use this in a grid-down scenario forever. Your toilet just needs water to flush everything down and that is a major reason people fill up bathtubs before a hurricane. The water isn’t so much for drinking, although you could since it came out of the tap (I know what is in my tub so I wouldn’t without a good filter) but you can easily use this to flush your toilet. Simply take a gallon bucket filled with water and pour it into the bowl when you are done. Gravity will do the rest. Assuming there is radio after the disaster you can listen and see if the sewer lines are still functioning and this is only an option if water is not an issue.

Five Gallon Bucket

5-Gallon bucket toilet

If you have ever been camping in the woods and used the bathroom by squatting you will appreciate that even having a bucket to sit on can make a world of difference. Sure, squatting will work in a pinch (no pun intended) but I am used to sitting on the throne and the next best thing would be sitting on something, anything as opposed to squatting. That’s just me. A five gallon bucket only needs a proper toilet seat and you are in business. You can take the seat off your existing toilet and there are even kits pre-made with the lid that fits perfectly on your bucket without slipping. While this makes the act seem more like the good old days of your trusty porcelain friend, they do need to be cleaned out. Having dirt or sawdust to cover over the feces will reduce smell and flies and make it so you don’t have to clean as often.

Cat Hole

Cat Hole – No frills

Another camping favorite when we have a bigger group and a chair. The cat hole is most easily dug with a post-hole digger and you want to make it as deep as possible without getting into your water table. The process would be to dig the hole and fill it in with dirt after it becomes about 1/2 full with waste. Once the hole is dug, you can set a chair with a hole in it over the hole, hence the post hole digger since this will make a hole just big enough to drop the important stuff down, but your chair will still fit over it. This process would be repeated often if you had a large group. Don’t have a chair, just take one that you have and cut a hole in it or put your wood working skills to use and make a box with a hole and mount your toilet seat over the hole.

Slit Trench

This would be for larger groups who plan to cover the trench with more permanent toilet facilities. If you are ready for this option, you seem to have sanitation or at least a crew to dig a large trench covered.

No Toilet Paper?

Ah, the subject of so many blog posts and forum threads. Do you have enough toilet paper stored? What will you do when you run out of paper? It will happen eventually and you will be forced to get back to nature… Some items I have thought of are old phone books or catalogs. We’d be covered for a year on just the holiday junk mail catalogs alone. Some other preppers recommend a water sprayer which might work, but I haven’t tried that.

Trash

What trash will you have after the SHTF? I can think of lots of trash accumulating in the near term after a disaster and most people will fill up the large hefty bags and sit them on the corner or by the street. If the garbage services are no longer running , burning your trash would be suitable. I would be careful to salvage items that may come in use later which if you think about it could be almost anything. Glass or plastic containers that could be used to store water wouldn’t go into the recycling bin anymore. Tin or aluminum cans could also be re-purposed. I can see paper getting burned in the fire, but that may be something to save for the bathroom…

If you have other ideas or tips on sanitation, let us know in the comments. I look forward to hearing from you.

What Happens to Pets When Disaster Strikes ?

“It’s estimated about 600,000 companion animals died or were left homeless as a result of Hurricane Katrina.

Dogs, cats and other pets left behind in a disaster can die quickly by drowning or fire, for example. Or they can die slow, agonizing deaths confined in a condemned home, tied up in a backyard, or waiting inside an apartment for an owner who won’t be returning.

If they are able to escape confinement, they wander the streets looking for water, food and shelter, and can ultimately succumb to dehydration, starvation or disease.

Pets lucky enough to be rescued can be deeply traumatized by what they’ve been through, and exhibit stress-related behaviors that make adoption by a new family difficult.

And there’s also the terrible sense of loss and grief pet parents feel when they don’t know what’s become of a beloved family pet left behind.”

Learn How to Make a Para-cord Dog Leash

Above Video Title:   Lookers Para-cord Dog Leash

I saw this video and thought it was a neat idea to learn how to make a para-cord leash for your dog. Especially since it is a shorter leash and won’t get tangled up in a dog’s legs so easy. So in that aspect of it, it is better for the dogs health not to get tangled up.

A Simple Solution to World Health Issues: Toilets

According to statistics from the World Health Organization and UNICEF, 2.6 billion people worldwide engage in open defecation.

The lack of toilets is the cause of 2 million preventable deaths a year, mostly from a variety of dysentery-like ailments that result from ingesting human fecal matter.

Without toilets, it’s extremely difficult to avoid ingesting human waste.  Either it enters the food and water supplies, or it is spread by flies and dust.

The Los Angeles Times reports:

“When people don’t see the problem, they don’t push for solutions. That means there’s little incentive for governments to provide sewer systems and septic tanks to city dwellers, or for people in the country to dig and maintain outhouses.”

It may sound incredible, but a whopping 40 percent of all the people in the world do not have access to toilets. Instead, they’re forced to defecate outdoors; in fields and on riverbanks, causing human fecal matter to enter their food and water supply.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF, the lack of toilets alone causes an estimated 2 million preventable deaths a year.

As this Los Angeles Times article points out, the main problem here is the fact that “when people don’t see the problem, they don’t push for solutions.” Yes, change typically only occurs when enough people realize there’s a problem, and understand what the real source of that problem is.

It’s not that providing toilets to impoverished areas is too expensive, or is not believed to have a positive impact.

On the contrary, the LA Times writes:

“Unlike many other world health issues, which require the developed world to cough up billions in aid, Sim believes that if there is demand, people without toilets will buy their own, even if they choose simple composting pit toilets. Sim estimates local cottage industries providing toilets could be a trillion-dollar business for locals, so it would be not only a health boom but an economic one as well.

So why don’t they?

There are likely a number of factors that play into this situation, but one that is surely not helping any is the stubborn belief that medications; drugs, and vaccines in particular, are the answer to the world’s health problems, when in reality, the simplest, most basic hygiene measures would eliminate a large portion of these problems.

Today, most medical doctors consider vaccines to be their single most important tool in protecting public health. And impoverished areas that lack the most basic facilities for maintaining hygiene, clean food and water, also end up in large part relying on vaccines to protect them from infectious diseases.

Vaccines versus Hygiene

The overcrowded, filthy cities of 18th and 19th Century Europe and the New World spawned epidemics of devastating disease. Physicians and politicians were desperate for cures, while failing to realize that eliminating the root causes of poor health — poverty, malnutrition, water contaminated by human and animal waste, spoiled food, and industrial air pollution among others — would also help prevent the spread of many diseases.

This “misdiagnosis” of the problem was the beginning of what has since turned into our modern health care system, with its blind reliance on vaccines and other drugs to “address” diseases.

Government-enforced vaccinations against one disease after another led to burgeoning chemical- and pharmaceutical industries. Today, vaccinations are big business, and about to get even bigger.

Patents on many blockbuster drugs are now expiring, and with them the tens of billions of dollars of revenue they used to generate. As a result, drug companies are now shifting their focus to vaccines instead of new drugs.

Public health officials in every country across the world assist the pharmaceutical industry’s growth, often by force of laws that ensure citizens use about a dozen different viral and bacterial vaccines, including ones to suppress even generally mild childhood diseases such as chicken pox.

Meanwhile, traditional public health measures often take a backseat to achieving the highest possible vaccination rates. These would include:

  • Improving sanitation
  • Nutrition
  • Living conditions
  • Health education
  • Access to preventive- and affordable medical care, especially in underprivileged populations

Mass Vaccination Campaigns Eradicated Disease – What’s so Bad About that?

What many mass-vaccination advocates fail to realize is that while vaccines can and do work in some cases, the widespread use of multiple vaccines is neither without individual risk, nor without serious long-term public health consequences.

Some of these consequences can easily be considered far worse than the individual diseases these vaccines were designed to protect against.

Mass vaccination has been heralded as the magic bullet that effectively erased a number of diseases such as smallpox, whooping cough, diphteria and tetanus. However, vaccines are now being manufactured against not just deadly infectious diseases, but all sorts of health conditions, from mild and rarely lethal childhood diseases to nicotine addiction, allergies, and even cancer.

The problem with this mindset is that vaccines can suppress your natural immune system.

Many components used in vaccines are capable of suppressing your immune system. Some of these ingredients are also highly toxic. Some of these components include:

  • Chemicals and adjuvants
  • Viruses used in the vaccine
  • Foreign DNA/RNA from animal tissues

The medical community KNOWS this. It’s not necessarily a secret. But the prevailing thought is that it’s better to trade a small immune suppression for immunity to a specific disease.

This is flawed thinking at its finest, because what you’re doing is risking immune suppression (which can compromise your primary defence against ALL known disease – including millions of pathogens) to try to achieve temporary immunity against one disease, which could be a disease you will never get or, if you do, will not result in complications leading to permanent health problems .

Any time you suppress your immune system, you actually increase your risk to acquiring MORE diseases.

And when you consider the fact that children in the US are expected to receive 48 doses of 14 vaccines by the time they’re 6 years old, you can begin to estimate the enormous strain their developing immune systems are under!

By age 18, US federal public health officials say they should have gotten a total of 69 doses of 16 vaccines. This “prescription” is the same for every U.S. child, even though it’s well known that all children are not the same biologically, and some children will not be able to survive the currently recommended vaccine schedule without suffering serious harm to their health.

Vaccine Immunity is Not the Same as Naturally Acquired Immunity…

Vaccines are designed to fool your body’s immune system into producing antibodies to resist viral and bacterial infection. The theory is that a vaccination involves the same mechanisms as if you were to actually have the disease and recuperate from it. But unlike natural recovery from an infectious disease, which stimulates lifetime immunity, vaccines only provide temporary protection. That’s why booster shots are often required.

Besides that, there are a vast number of peer-reviewed papers demonstrating that the theory of vaccination is questionable.

Evidence-based science shows, again and again, that when it comes to preventing infectious diseases, antibodies on their own cannot, and do not, equal immunity.

For example, years of scientific research, assembled by researcher Judy Wilyman, gives evidence for how ineffective the whooping cough (pertussis) vaccine really is, and why the mass use of pertussis vaccine is not the most important factor in reducing whooping cough-associated injuries and deaths.. She writes:

“The paper concludes that pertussis vaccine is not controlling the incidence of pertussis in the Australian community, nor was it the most significant factor in reducing mortality and morbidity of pertussis disease.”

What did she deem the most likely factor responsible for reducing whooping cough?   Raised standards of living.

Another example is the PhD thesis of a researcher from Tasmania named Arlette Mercae. Her thesis offers an in-depth look at the way in which assumptions made about vaccine-induced immunity have led to a vaccination policy that is NOT based in science and ignores research that disagrees with the accepted premise that vaccines induce immunity.

Her research concludes that by pushing ahead with more and more vaccines, we may be doing immense damage to the human race as a whole.

In a world where science-based evidence supposedly rules the roost, the vaccine industry has managed to turn scientific evidence on its ear and indoctrinated the entire health care system, and the general public, into believing in mass vaccination policies based on flawed assumptions.

It’s time to wake up from our advertisement-induced collective slumber and begin to review the folklore of conventional vaccine recommendations with a more critical eye.

True Immunity: Where Does it Come From?   In a word: Nutrition!

Again and again, science has glossed over this most important factor that can make or break your health. Proper nutrition will naturally boost your immune system and provide for vibrant health. Proper nutrition can allow you to recover from both acute and chronic disease. Without it, your body does not have the building blocks it needs to prevent disease and to heal itself.

Your body will NEVER suffer from a synthetic, chemical drug deficiency — that much I can assure you!

Unfortunately, there’s very little profit in pushing broccoli and cooking spices. This is why you can’t get an honest answer from your health officials, and why there are so few safe, effective treatments forthcoming from the conventional medical industry.

Profit motives drive the pharmaceutical- and medical industries. These are not philanthropic establishments.

Hence, medicine has shunned diet and nutrition, claiming it has no place in scientific medicine, and replaced man’s original “pharmacy” with synthetic and usually toxic drugs.

And what do we have to show for these so-called health care advances?

Declining health across the board, from the very young to the very old…

Reducing Your Risk of Contracting Infectious Disease

So let’s circle back to the issue of sanitation and toilets, because many will likely want to argue that the Western world does not have this problem, yet still has issues with the spread of infectious disease.

Whereas the developing world could easily improve disease rates by improving sanitation, countries like the United States and most of Europe has the opposite problem of being overly sanitized.

Here, overuse of vaccines, antibiotics, antibacterial household products like hand soap and cleaners, have all contributed to the upsurge of new, drug-resistant superbugs.

But even these superbugs can be safely and effectively dealt with without resorting to overuse of chemical and pharmaceutical products..

There is actually no need to ever use antibacterial hand soap, as there’s plenty of evidence showing that nothing works better to cut germs than simply washing your hands with plain soap and water!

Limiting your use of vaccines, antibiotics, and antibacterial household products can actually help curb these new diseases, and there are natural options available even within the medical setting, such as using copper door handles and faucets, which dramatically inhibits the spread of deadly viruses and bacteria.

20 Lessons from the Streets of Cairo During the Riots

In a previous post we shared a story from SHTF School founder Selco in which he discussed his experience of  Living Through SHTF In the Middle of A War Zone during the conflict in Bosnia in the 1990′s. This yielded an extensive discussion from our community about preparations, strategies, and the reality of what it’s like when the system around you collapses into conflict.

In the following post we present another experience, this time from Cairo, from someone who was there at the height of the riots and violence that would eventually lead to the collapse of the entire political structure of Egypt and imposition of military rule.

As is generally the case, first hand experiences offer an often informative and realistic view of what you can really expect, the challenges you’ll face, the thoughts that will be running through your mind, and actionable steps to take in the midst of crisis.

From the somewhat guilt filled comforts of Greece, I have been thinking about what I learned from the recent Cairo SHTF experience. I am not putting myself forth as an expert of any sort and, frankly, many or even most items on the list below might be flat out wrong….who the hell knows. We were in Cairo from Jan 25th until late Feb 3rd when the neighborhood gunfire became full-auto and regularly occurring. At that point, we decided that Friday prayers (the next day) might not yield a pleasant experience. We had no way of knowing that we had already seen the worst.

Lesson #1….the best weapon for SHTF is truly whatever F*&$ING firearm you can lay your hands on and it does not matter the slightest bit what it is! I had a borrowed three shot semi-auto Beretta 26″ bbl trap grade shotgun. I LOVED IT. It was my baby and I truly miss it now!. That said, I would have given my left nut for my Yugo underfolder or SGL-21. Frankly, I am now of the opinion that if, in the moment, you are being AT ALL picky about firearms then by definition the shit has NOT truly hit the fan. One guy on our street only had a nice little S&W J-frame .22 and he seemed a lot more relaxed than the guys with baseball bats I can tell you that!

Lesson #2…..Good will with one’s friends and neighbors has the power to greatly enhance or even make unnecessary ABSOLUTELY ANY prep you can make (including having money). Bad will with ones neighbors similarly has the ability to completely nullify any prep (again, including having money). I am and was the lucky beneficiary and supplier of the former. As an example, one night on the street a local young cop who lived in the neighborhood asked me “where did you get that shotgun”. I winked and said, “I found it”. He just smirked and said, “Oh…OK”. End of conversation. That’s what is achieved by six years of being the “Cool American” who takes the time to chat with everyone from street vendors, doormen, and neighborhood kids to villa owners and businessmen.

Lesson #3….Bugging out is really only an option if you are lucky enough to be psychic and see the shit BEFORE it truly hits the fan. The bug out plans you have will almost certainly physically be blocked when SHTF. Good luck getting to Alexandria after SHTF in Tahrir square or to Aswan when the government shuts down the rail network! Frankly, we almost realized we had those options before they were blocked off but by they might have been more dangerous than bugging in with our friends and neighbors and banding together to protect the neighborhood. Further, I did not want to be a “refugee” so bugging in was perfectly fine since we prepped wisely. That said, and in spite of the above, when you see an escape route, RUN (see Lesson #4 and #11)!

Lesson #4….Do NOT be too proud to become a “refugee” if you can manage it comfortably. There is a world of difference between being a penniless “refugee” and taking a “strategic vacation” (new term I just invented!) on a commercial flight with a fat wad of cash (see Lesson #13).

Lesson #5…People are stupid. There MAY (repeat…MAY) still be time to prep the very day and even the second or third day the shit is “kinda” hitting the fan (SKHTF! another new term!). Grocery stores MAY still be open and things MAY be as normal for a short time. Now is the time to stock up on little things you may need more of or on comfort items. I saw this happen in Cairo even the first days of the worst rioting. Stores were open even a couple blocks from Tahrir strangely enough….for a while. Day three of the revolution, when Tahrir looked like a legitimate war-zone, the Souq two blocks from the square was selling us vegetables and canned goods and, amazingly, was not all that busy! We cleaned them out and distributed surplus to those in our building who could not or would not go out (See Lesson #2)

Lesson #6….Murphy’s law applies. Preps will fail or break or prove impractical when you least expect. For example, the sat phone I just replaced worked just fine for all of the last five years. I wanted to upgrade and bought the new model that arrived in Cairo a week before the riots when my wife returned from the US. The brand new com equipment that would have totally bailed us out when the govt cut cell and internet….you guessed it….had a bad battery shipped with it!! Moral of the story: Invest in MULTIPLE redundancies! I am now also buying a handheld HAM system.

Lesson #7….Marry well! Perhaps this should be Lesson #1. My wife was calm and collected for the 10 days we were in Cairo during SHTF. She was organizing things around the house and with neighbors and even making improvised weaponry (clubs) even better with the addition of protruding nails etc. She rocks! She also cooked for the “neighborhood watch” and is now absolutely LOVED by the people around us! She helped with Lesson #2 immensely because NO other wives in the neighborhood were bringing tea and food to the guys on the street.

Lesson #8….You don’t have to “bug out” to MOVE and make things a great deal easier for yourself! Just because the shit is hitting the fan where you are does NOT mean it is hitting the fan even 10 miles away. This is not bugging out…just moving. When we were driving to the airport on day ten or eleven, I was amazed that a short 10 minute drive away there were no tanks or APCs and people were calm. The whole vibe was so different that it kinda made me suspect that something was wrong. SHTF had become “normal” for me to the point that “normal” now looked scary and suspicious. We even passed a wedding that was taking place where everyone looked totally calm. We didn’t realize for 10 days that all we really had to do was find a new apartment or take a nice hotel room 20 miles away from our current location. Lesson learned! Don’t become married to your “role” in SHTF.

Lesson #9…When the players in a conflict become ill-defined, it’s time to step aside. If you know who the bad guys are, you can play this game but when it becomes a war of all against all, it becomes imperative to stay out of the game where EVERYONE loses. The Feb 2 riots that took place the night before we left were a perfect example of this. It was no longer just looters we were worried about, it was EVERYONE. Buildings were being occupied in Tahrir presumably by both sides of the conflict and I didn’t want to wait for this phenomenon to come 5 blocks south to us. If SHTF starts to look too much like civil war, it’s “game over” and time to make a change.

Lesson #10…Stockpiling is 100% rational. Even if you wind up bugging out or SHTF is short enough to not use everything you have stashed, your foresight will help others and will contribute greatly to your ability to adhere to Lesson #2. Just because you are able to bug out does not mean others will have the same luxury and these people WILL need your help.

Lesson #11…People WILL sell you out. Be prepared for it and know that it might come from anywhere….”Friends”, Relatives, or employers. Someone will almost assuredly ditch you or put you in a tight spot while covering their own ass. The toughest part of this lesson is coming to terms with the fact that at some point, it’s totally justifiable and yes even forgivable. Understand that at some point your OWN family will be the priority and that you will be the one who is selling out people you know and likely care for. I know that this is not at all a comfortable thought, but it is realistic.

Lesson #12…Some people will surprise you. People from whom you might expect animosity, will sometimes provide you with the help you need and incur substantial risk or personal cost to do it. Just like you will at some point very likely be embodying Lesson #11, you will (or definitely F($**ING should) be embodying Lesson #12 as well.

Lesson #13….Diverisfy your financial position. Gold will not buy groceries (but see Lesson #14) and cash won’t buy an emergency flight over the internet. Similarly, your big neighborhood Christian grocer will get freaked out over the religious implications of SHTF and close. Guess what, he is the only guy in a 10 mile radius who takes credit cards…so have cash! Further, diversify your currencies in international terms by holding foreign currency for the place you intend to bug out too (and maybe even one or two others since you never know where you might be going). From now on I will hold Egyptian Pounds, Dollars, Euros, and Jordanian Dinar….at a minimum.

Lesson #14…Gold….OWN IT! It may not work with the grocer you barely know as a medium of exchange but it damn sure makes great collateral eg. “OK…you keep this gold sovereign and I will buy it back from you for the 200 Egyptian pounds I owe you as soon as the ATMs start working”. It’s great bribe material too, though I didn’t have to resort to it, when you want to get your beloved dog on a “no-pets” flight.

Lesson #15….Silver….Keep some but only buy it in major quantity with your gold when things have calmed down and you know you wont be bugging out! Silver had taken a good dip about a week before SHTF and I was this close to buying a few kg bars the day or two before the protests started. I didn’t and am VERY glad. Silver is of course bulky and heavy and I would not have needed those extra kgs when we were finally on the move ten or eleven days later. Silver is a great medium of exchange when things have settled down after SHTF but it is not a great prep UNLESS you keep it confined to maybe a single kg of junk silver or small rounds.

Lesson #16….Be flexible and creative. SHTF will be unique to the surroundings and people and cause thus necessitating quick thinking that is outside the box and the formulation of solutions to problems that may work today but not tomorrow. Do NOT become married to a situation, your role in it, or the solution to a problem that may not work for you tomorrow.

Lesson #17….Be intimidating when you think it will work. Develop a war face! Be loud and fearless and look like someone capable of anything…it minimizes negotiation and whining in other parties. Simultaneously, know when to fly under the radar and when to say “Katy bar the door!” The nature of SHTF changes over time and necessitates that YOU change who you are to a very substantial degree.

Lesson #18….Stock your liquor cabinet. Do so partially for barter and good will purposes, but also understand that when a curfew is imposed during SHTF, the impromptu “revolution party” will become common. I was teargassed on day 3 or 4 and scooped up six random study abroad journalism students who were literally trapped by police in my neighborhood. The police had blocked off all entrances and exits so these red-eyed kids could literally not get home. We all went back to my apartment where, over the next 6 hours or so, my wife, these kids, and I did some serious damage to a bottle of red label. On top of that, the realistic reason for stocking up is that after a few days of staying up all night enjoying what SHTF has to offer, you will have trouble sleeping and a wee dram never hurts.

Lesson #19…When SHTF is over, be prepared for a LOT of odd behavior on the part of people you know. There will be lots of unnecessary crap about “who did what” during SHTF and arguments about how we can avoid SHTF in the future or how we can rebuild or “unify” in the wake of SHTF. Everyone will think their ideas are the best and the very real conflict between people you know will push you and those around you back toward a SHTF situation to some degree. The moral of this story is, if you are a foreigner, keep your damned mouth shut. Even if you are a local, the arguments are just not worth it.

Lesson #20…You learned who your friends are during SHTF…now treat them that way! For example, I no longer visit my big neighborhood grocer who closed and locked sh!t up tighter than a drum for the FULL DURATION of SHTF. I do, however, now regularly frequent the tiny-a$$ little grocery store with the mediocre selection around the corner. Why? Because it is owned and operated by a 50 year old guy who was open every single day of SHTF and I saw him regularly at 2:00am guarding the front of his store (and others) armed with nothing more than a hippo-hide whip (sjambok). He was doing this when the very reliable rumor was that looters had stolen police vehicles, uniforms, and guns. I don’t care that this guy doesn’t have the shampoo my wife likes, I am buying my groceries from him!

The Great Global Currency Reset is Upon Us

Above Video Title: GERALD CELENTE – The Great GLOBAL RESET Being CREATED By The ELITE (July 3, 2014)

“What is a GCR Global Currency Reset? First of all, lets define a currency reset. A currency reset is a currency revaluation, or currency devaluation. It is when a currency’s value is brought down by market forces and or government, with respect to goods and services. For example, it’s not that gasoline that gets more expensive, it’s that the value of your money has fallen.”

“The main benefit of a currency reset is to reduce a country’s trade deficit. When a country’s debts become too large to handle, it may find it difficult to pay its debt, and then there is a currency reset. The currency reset triggers a currency ‘s value to fall and its debt becomes easier to pay. When a country’s currency falls, it makes its products cheaper, and helps to increase the country’s exports.”

Bankers are Dying, Why ?

Above Video Title: Why Are Bankers Committing Suicide?

Should we be concerned???  I think we should and be prepared as best we can for turbulent times.  Do you have some extra food and water in case there are riots and the store shelves are cleaned out? It’s a good idea to store maybe a months worth of food, water, and supplies. That should get you by until things settle down. It only takes about 3 or 4 days before store shelves are cleaned out.

Some States in the U.S. are Unprepared for Emergencies, Is Your State One of Them ?

“(NaturalNews) Residents of New Jersey, New York and other Atlantic states recently ravaged by superstorm Sandy know better than almost every other American that their states were simply not adequately prepared for the carnage visited upon them by a once-in-a-lifetime weather event. That said, several other states are equally unprepared for such storms – or a host of other man-made or natural disasters, despite federal and state governments having spent hundreds of billions “preparing” for such emergencies since the 9/11 attacks.”

“A new report finds that two states – Kansas and Montana – are particularly unprepared, while some others, notably Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Wisconsin and Vermont, have done a better job of maintaining a state of readiness.”
